DIALOGUE ON MIGRATION
REF: STATE 122513
1. We delivered reftel points to Armenian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs International Organizations Department Chief
Valery Mkrtumyan July 31. He said that the GOAM had not yet
determined its position, but that if most countries wanted a
forum to discuss migration, Armenia would participate. He
said migration was a key issue for Armenia, and that the GOAM
worked bilaterally and multilaterally with others, such as
Russia and EU members, to decrease illegal migration and
establish legal labor quotas. He said trafficking in
persons, both for sex and labor purposes, was a major concern
for Armenia.
2. Mkrtumyan said the following officials would represent
Armenia at the UN High Level Dialogue on International
Migration and Development in September:
Hovik Abrahamyan
Minister for Territorial Administration
Gagik Yeganyan
Chief of the Migration Agency
Ministry for Territorial Administration
Armen Martirosyan
Permanent Representative
Armenian Mission to the United Nations
