1. In response to reftel: The National Radiation
Laboratory of the New Zealand Ministry of Health is
the regulatory authority that approves applications
for transferring RADIOACTIVE materials into New
Zealand. Application forms for such transfers can
be found on the laboratory's website:
www.nrl.moh.govt.nz. For transfers of Category 1
and Category 2 quantities of RADIOACTIVE material,
the New Zealand recipient would have to be granted a
license by the National Radiation Laboratory.

2. Thus, any application for the transfer of
Category 1 quantities of cobalt-60 to the University
of Auckland must be lodged in consultation with the
university.

3. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission could
contact the National Radiation Laboratory directly:
Tony Cotterill, leader quality assurance/team leader
regulatory, National Radiation Laboratory, Public
Health Directorate, Ministry of Health; telephone
011-64-3-366-5059; fax 011-64-3-366-1156; e-mail
address Tony_Cotterill@nrl.moh.govt.nz.

4. Post stands ready to provide additional
assistance as needed.
