(C) Head of the MFA's NATO Division Vytautas Leskevicius told
us that Ginte Damusis, Ambassador-at-Large in the MFA's
Security Department, is in Kiev May 24 to negotiate Ukrainian
participation in the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction
Team (PRT) in Chaghcharan, Afghanistan. Leskevicius said
that Ukraine is considering both a military and civilian PRT
presence. The GOL is suggesting that Ukraine provide police
and legal trainers or agricultural and engineering experts as
part of the civilian component. Leskavicius said that he or
Damusis will be able to provide a readout of the meeting upon
Damusis's return from Kiev the week of May 29.
