1. EconPolOff shared reftel fact sheet on November 8 with
Elisabeth Koegler, the Head of the MFA,s Unit for
International Women,s Issues. Koegler said Minister
Plassnik was delighted to participate in the working session
in September.
2. In follow-up to September,s working session, Austria is
planning to host an Islamic conference in April 2007. This
conference will continue the GoA's emphasis on promoting a
dialogue of cultures and religions. The April meeting will
analyze the central role of women in conflict situations and
in the reconstruction of societies, particularly in the
Middle East. Koegler confirmed that Austria was planning to
invite the participants from September,s working session to
this conference. According to Koegler, Minister Plassnik
will soon travel to the Middle East to discuss the conference
with regional policymakers. Koegler promised to keep us
apprised of the latest developments.
3. Koegler expressed an interest in receiving more
information regarding the composition of the proposed
Steering Committee and in learning more about the
establishment of the Roster of Women Leaders.
