¶1. EconPolOff delivered reftel demarche on October 4 to
Georg Poestinger from the MFA's Division for Arms Control,
Disarmament, and Non-Proliferation.
¶2. Although Poestinger agreed that the 2004 Panel report
(WP.2/Rev.3) should be used as the basis for the 2007 Panel,
he requested more time to study both the UNIDIR and the 2004
Panel reports before making a final determination of
Austria's position. However, he stated that Austria would
work within the EU framework in achieving a common approach
on this issue.
¶3. Poestinger mentioned that he would be interested in
learning more specifics about what the U.S. found
unacceptable in the UNIDIR report.
