¶1. (SBU) Ambassador discussed reftel points with acting
Austrian Foreign Minister Johannes Kyrle on May 31.
EconPolCouns also highlighted reftel message with MFA Middle
East assistant secretary equivalent Ralph Scheide.
¶2. (C) Kyrle welcomed the Secretary's statement, noting its
"historic nature." The Ambassador stressed the need for
public and private support for the initiative, and Kyrle
undertook to provide it. Scheide readily agreed that Austria
could use its relatively strong contacts with Iran to urge
Iran to choose the right path.
