CANDIDACY
¶1. Mission has received a note from the Permanent Mission
of Argentina to the United Nations requesting USG support for
the candidature of Dr. Norberto Liwski for re-election to the
Committee on the Rights of the Child. The elections are
scheduled to take place during the 11th Meeting of States
Parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child in
February 2007.
¶2. Mission will respond that since the United States has
not ratified the International Convention on the Rights of
the Child, the United States will not participate in the
upcoming election.
