OCTOBER VISIT TO NATO
¶1. (U) This is a request for guidance by COB Friday, October
¶13.
¶2. (C) On Wednesday, October 18 UN Special Envoy for Kosovo,
Martti Ahtisaari will brief an expanded North Atlantic
Council (NAC) including non-NATO KFOR contributing countries
on a comprehensive settlement proposal for Kosovo. The
Mission requests guidance for the October 18 NAC on themes
and messages the Ambassador could deliver to Ahtisaari and
our Allies.
¶3. (C) Immediately prior to Ahtisaari,s briefing before the
NAC, Ambassador Nuland will host a meeting with Ahtisaari and
Quint permanent representatives to NATO: UK; France;
Germany; and Italy. Nuland will also have the opportunity
for a brief bilateral exchange with Ahtisaari prior to
meeting with the Quint.
