(C) In response to reftel points presented February 10 by
DCM, MOFA Deputy Vice Foreign Minister Masaharu Kono did not
commit the Japanese Government to an official position on
whether to support Guatemala's efforts to represent Latin
America on the Security Council. DVFM Kono did say, however,
that reftel points were "well taken." MOFA will coordinate
closely with USG on this issue as the election date draws
near, Kono added.
