1. (C) Japan supports passage of the UNSCR on Iran proposed
by France and the U.K. and is hopeful it will be passed
unanimously, Vice Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi told
Ambassador December 14 (see reftel B).
2. (C) Embassy Tokyo Political Officer followed up by
delivering an additional copy of the points (reftel A) to
Toshihiro Kitamura, Principal Deputy Director of MOFA's
United Nations Policy Division, December 15. Kitamura
affirmed that Japan will support the resolution, commenting
that it contains the points Japan advocated. He remarked
that Japan's interests and the interests of the United States
coincide on this issue.
