1. "Japan Shows Resolve on DPRK Sanctions" The top-
circulation, moderate Yomiuri editorialized (11/15): "Not
easing pressure on North Korea is the best way to make
the six-party talks on its nuclear program a success.
Further diplomatic efforts are needed to maintain and
strengthen the international 'net' around Pyongyang. The
GOJ has embargoed 24 'luxury items,' such as jewelry and
perfume, from export to North Korea. This measure, which
takes effect Wednesday, is in line with UNSC Resolution
1718.... Japan is the second country to implement such
measures following Switzerland.... Whatever the actual
impact of the embargo, it serves to make clear Japan's
determination not to ease sanctions on the DPRK until
that country abandons its nuclear and missile
programs...."
