1. Embassy Tokyo political officer delivered reftel message
October 25 to MOFA Human Rights Division Women's Issues
Officer Naoko Maeda. Maeda explained that her office is the
contact point for international cooperation on women's
development projects.
2. There are currently two women ministers in the Abe
Cabinet. They are, Minister for Gender Equality Takauchi
Sanae, who works with Gender Equity Bureau Director General
Kumiko Bando on domestic women's issues, and Minister of
State for Economic and Fiscal Policy Hiroko Ota. (NOTE:
Sanae's full title is Minister of State for Okinawa, Northern
Territories, Science and Technology Policy, Gender Equality,
Social Affairs, and Food Safety. END NOTE.)
3. Other prominent Japanese women officials include National
Security Advisor Yuriko Koike and President of the House of
Councillors (Upper House) Chikage Oogi.
