(C) Embassy USAID and Political Officers met October 18 with
MOFA Second Country Assistance Planning Division Director
Naofumi Hashimoto to discuss reftel demarche. Hashimoto said
that Japan had contributed USD 12 million for repatriation in
the region during the last year, half of it to southern
Sudan. He emphasized that Japan shared U.S. concerns about
the situation in southern Sudan, but was not sure when MOFA
would be able to make a decision about further funding.
