demarche to MOFA European Policy Division Principal Deputy
Director Kenichi Matsuda August 11. Matsuda said that Japan
does not have program money available to immediately
contribute to NATO's Partnership for Peace program.
Nonetheless, his division would coordinate with MOFA's
Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Divisions and the Japanese
Embassy in Ukraine to consider making a request for next
year's budget. He could not say when Japan would make a
decision, but speculated that it would be sometime towards
the end of the year.
