(S) Embassy Tokyo officers delivered ref (A) points to Ministry of Finance International Bureau Legal Office Deputy Division Chief Shunichi Fukushima on July 31, and to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Northeast Asia Acting Director Kosei Murota on August 1. Both officials expressed Japan's full support for efforts to curtail the DPRK,s illicit activities. ¶2. (S) Murota promised to share the points with relevant bureaus, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation (MLIT) and MOFA,s Disarmament, Non-proliferation, and Science Department, which is responsible for the Proliferation Security Initiative. Noting that former NE Division Director Naoki Ito, who had received the USG,s previous demarches on this issue, had left the director's position only the previous day, Murota promised to ascertain the current status of the GOJ,s efforts on this issue and report back to the embassy.
