(U) Ambassador Schieffer signed the Protocol of Exchange of
Instruments of Ratification for the Mutual Legal Assistance
Treaty (MLAT),and exchanged instruments of ratification with
Senior Vice Foreign Minister Katsutoshi Kaneda in Tokyo on
June 21, 2006. The Treaty will enter into force in thirty
days. As per instructions, Post will pouch the original
Japan Instrument of Ratification and the Protocol to the
Department.
