2. (C) Embassy Tokyo Political Officer delivered reftel
demarche to MOFA Humanitarian Assistance Division Principal
Deputy Director Masanori Nakano on June 1, 2006. Nakano said
the Japanese Mission to the UN in Geneva had already been
approached about this issue and the Government of Japan was
preparing a response that would likely be sent through its
mission in Geneva. In discussing the issue, Nakano asked
which other countries the United States planned to approach,
and what their responses have been to date.
3. (U) ACTION REQUEST. Please provide information on
responses from other countries, as appropriate, as requested
by Nakano.
