SUBJECT: ALBANIA ON DRAFT UNSC RESOLUTION ON LEBANON

(SBU) Per reftel, Ambassador delivered demarche urging
support for the U.S.-French draft UNSC resolution on Lebanon
to Deputy Foreign Minister (responsible for multilateral
affairs) Edith Harxhi. Harxhi offered the full support of
the GoA for the draft resolution and the international
community's efforts generally to resolve the crisis. Harxhi
expressed particular interest in the resolution's
humanitarian aspects. Ambassador noted that the draft
resolution's call for "the international community to take
immediate steps to extend its financial and humanitarian
assistance to the Lebanese people" was significant as it
would have the authority of the Security Council.
