¶1. (U) Poloff delivered reftel demarche March 15 to MFA
Political Affairs Department Director Pim Dumore. Poloff
also followed up with MFA human rights policy officer Eric
Litver on March 17.
¶2. (C) Litver confirmed the EU is raising through diplomatic
channels the closing of the European Commission funded Civil
Society Training Center. He was not aware of any plans to
raise this or any other issues listed reftel in a more public
manner but promised to check with regional desks, the Dutch
embassy in Damascus, and his director. Likewise, he was
aware of no plans to raise these issues directly with the
Syrian government but promised to check.
