E.O. 12958: DECL: 11/05/2016
TAGS: PREL UNGA IS
SUBJECT: GOI RESIGNED TO UNGA RENEWAL OF EXISTING MANDATES
WITH ANTI-ISRAELI BIAS
REF: STATE 178061
Classified By: Political Counselor Marc Sievers for reasons 1.4 (B and
D).
(C) The Israeli MFA's Director for UN Political Affairs, Rony
Adam (please protect),spoke with poloff on November 6 after
reviewing our October 25 demarche on opposing anti-Israeli
bias at the UNGA. ADAM admitted that the GOI has come to the
conclusion that it has "no chance" of defeating this year's
resolutions renewing the mandates of the Committee on the
Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People,
the Division for Palestinian Rights, and the Special
Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the
Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the
Occupied Territories. He thanked the USG for our ongoing
efforts and blamed the likely renewals on the breakdown of
the larger mandate review process at the United Nations.
