(C) On March 27, poloff delivered ref A demarche, requesting
support for Ambassador (retired) Levitsky's re-election to
the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB),to Jang
Hyun-cheol, Deputy Director of the Human Rights and Social
Affairs Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
Trade. Jang said that the ROKG had not officially decided
whom to support because the election was still a couple of
months away. Speaking personally, however, he said he was
certain that the ROKG would back the U.S. candidate as it had
in the previous election. He also reiterated his ref B
statement that Seoul did not intend to forward its own
candidate.
