(C) In response to reftel, A/DCM and POL-MIL Chief met with
North American Affairs Bureau Director General Cho Taeyong on
August 16 to convey supplemental information on the U.S.
proposal concerning MTCR criteria for controlling UAVs and
cruise missiles. After obtaining clarification on several
points and conferring briefly with his deputy, DG Cho
indicated he thought the ROKG would be able to come out in
support of the proposal, but requested time for appropriate
officials to carefully review the specific points contained
in the demarche. Embassy will follow up on these ROKG
deliberations and report on their final position.
