1. On August 10 POLOFF delivered reftel demarche and the
attached resume to Ambassador Nedzad Hadzimusic, Assistant
Minister for Multilateral Affairs at the BiH Ministry of
Foreign Affairs. Hadzimusic said Bosnia would support
Professor Ruth Wedgwood's candidacy for the Human Rights
Committee. Without the U.S. as a member the Committee had no
"global credibility." Hadzimusic added that Bosnia would
seek USG support for its upcoming bids for membership on two
UN bodies: the Peace Building Commission (replacing Croatia)
and the Committee on the Rights of the Child (joining
Serbia). BiH Ambassador to the EU Lidija Topic was currently
the front-runner to be Bosnia's candidate for the CRC, which
holds elections in Winter 2007. Hadzimusic said that Bosnia
intended to raise its UN profile in any case, because it was
time to stop being "always a recipient" nation.
