1. On March 3, 2006, U.S. Marshals returned Jose Sime Reyes
to the United States for trial in the U.S. District Court for
the District of Columbia, where he is the subject of
indictment number 03-475 filed October 23, 2003. As detailed
in the indictment, Sime Reyes is alleged to have participated
in the importation and distribution of kilogram quantities of
MDMA from Europe into New York, Miami, and Orlando, Florida.
2. Following the December 15, 2004, issuance of a Dominican
arrest warrant based on a U.S. Government request for
extradition, Sime Reyes was apprehended in the fall of 2005
by officers of the Dominican National Directorate for Drug
Control's Fugitive Unit. After a series of hearings, Sime
Reyes was ultimately judged extraditable by the Criminal
Chamber of the Dominican Supreme Court. His extradition was
properly confirmed by presidential decree.
3. Sime Reyes is the 13th fugitive extradited to the United
States during FY-2006 and the 3rd extradited during this
calendar year.
