1, (C) EMBASSY delivered U.S. statements condemning the
bombing of the Iraqi Al-Askariya shrine to MFA Africa and
Middle East director Jose Juan Hernandez Cimadevilla on
February 24. Political officer also requested that the
Dominican Government issue its own statement condemning the
attack and expressing support for Iraqi and international
efforts to rebuild the shrine. Hernandez was already
informed of this terrorist act and pledged to pass our
request to a higher level and get back to us after a local
holiday February 27. We will follow up and report any
significant substantive reply.
