1. (C) Embassy delivered reftel demarche as a nonpaper,
seeking support for reporting Iran to the UN Security
Council, to MFA director of UN affairs Michelle Cohen on
January 20 (as soon as we received the official Spanish
language version of the points). Cohen on January 25
informed us she had forwarded a memo to MFA general
coordinator (chief of staff) Jose Trullols, recommending that
the Dominican Republic support the US position. We informed
Cohen that the issue was expected to come up for a vote in
the IAEA Board on February 2, and she undertook to press for
a decision and appropriate instructions in the shortest
possible time.
