SUBJECT: EXTRADITION OF DOMINICAN FUGITIVES RAMIREZ, ALBA,
AND RODRIGUEZ TO THE UNITED STATES
1. On July 5, 2006, U.S. Marshals returned Aurelio Ramirez to
Puerto Rico for trial in the U.S. District Court for the
District of Puerto Rico, where he is the subject of
indictment number 01-161(SEC) filed on April 14, 2004. As
detailed in the indictment, Ramirez is alleged to have
participated in a conspiracy to import more than five
kilograms of cocaine into the United States, in violation of
Title 21, U.S.C. Sections 841 and 846.
2. On July 7, 2006, U.S. Marshals will return Glennys
Rodriguez and David Alba (aka David Thomas Alba Garcia, Omar
Gonzalez and/or Joselito) to the United States for trial
before the U.S. District Court for the District of
Massachusetts on charges of conspiracy to possess with the
intent to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin, as
described by indictment number 05-10048-RCL filed on March 2,
2005.
3. All three fugitives availed themselves of the protections
guaranteed by the revised Dominican Criminal Procedures Code,
were found extraditable, and had their extraditions properly
confirmed by presidential decree.
3. Following the successful extradition of these individuals,
the Dominican Republic will have extradited 23 fugitives to
the United States during FY-2006, 13 of those during this
calendar year.
