Begin Text: REPUBLIC OF CHILE Ministry of Foreign Relations No 394 The Ministry of Foreign Relations - Directorate of Multilateral Policy - presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States of America and has the honor to inform that the Government of Chile has decided to present its candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period of 2014-2015, in the elections that will be held during the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2013. Chile has had an active role in this world forum since 1945, when it signed together with 50 other founding states the United Nations Charter giving birth to the organization. The Government of Chile, aware of the importance and responsibility involved in being a member of the Security Council, is fully committed to the maintenance of international peace and security in our region and beyond as evidenced by our extensive participation in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in HAITI (MINUTSTAH) and in peacekeeping operations in the Middle East, East Timor, Cypress, India, Pakistan and Bosnia Herzegovina. The Ministry of Foreign Relations, taking into consideration the excellent bonds of friendship and cooperation between both countries, requests the valuable support of the Government of the United States of America for the above mentioned candidacy.
