(U) Poloff delivered reftel demarche on the Declaration on
the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to Ambassador Jose Roberto
Mejia, Director of Global Affairs at the MFA. Ambassador
Mejia responded that El Salvador was still considering its
position, and noted that Mexico was lobbying heavily for them
to support the chair's text. Nevertheless, he expressed
reservations similar to the USG position about the content of
the text and the manner in which it was adopted at the Human
Rights Council. Post will continue to follow up with MFA to
ascertain El Salvador's position.
