(C) Poloff delivered ref demarche on the UNGA 10th Emergency
Special Session to Leonardo Bencini, Acting Office Director
for UN Affairs, November 17, urging Italy to vote against the
resolution on the incident in Beit Hanoun. Bencini responded
that the EU was very divided on the issue and it seemed an EU
common position would be impossible to achieve. However,
Italy would not share its national stance until all efforts
to reach a common position had been exhausted.
