1. (C) DCM conveyed the main points of reftel demarche to MFA
Chef de Cabinet Ferdinando Nelli Feroci and MFA Political
Director Giulio Terzi on May 31. Terzi said the MFA had
already seen the Secretary's statement, which it read with
great interest, and EU High Representative Solana's reaction.
The MFA already was working on its own statement of support
for the U.S. position, which would also call on Iran to
suspend its enrichment and reprocessing activities and come
to the negotiating table.
2. (C) The Ambassador is attempting to reach FM D'Alema and
post will report his reaction and the complete text of the
MFA statement septel.
