1. (SBU) Polcouns met May 24 with MFA Director of
International Organizations and UN Affairs Nasser Bourita to
discuss reftel demarche request on the UN declaration on the
rights of indigenous peoples. There is no Embassy of New
Zealand or Australia in Morocco. Polcouns left behind
non-papers with Bourita. Bourita had no substantive comment,
and per reftel, post will follow up with Bourita once the MFA
has had the opportunity to review the material.
2. (SBU) Comment: The GOM will review the draft declaration
with the Western Sahara in mind. It will scrutinize the
draft text for any impact it might have on Morocco's claim to
the disputed territory and on the rights of the people who
live there.
