(S/NF) On March 7, the DCM chaired a meeting to discuss
engaging French authorities per reftel regarding the presence
of the PKK on their soil, especially the presence of key PKK
support figure Riza Altun. Representatives from DAO, ORA,
Legatt, Justice, ECON and POL attended. Attendees noted that
Altun's legal status in France appeared to be in question,
which raised the possibility that the GOF could
administratively expell him. Attendees will convey demarche
information to their respective interlocutors; the DCM will
discuss with his Turkish counterpart and the Foreign
Minister's chief of staff. Embassy will report on GOF
reactions and any information received from French
authorities.
