Nr.: 62/06
Date: 20.05.2006
(bold) The Foreign Minister congratulates Iraq on its new
government (end bold)
"I am pleased that the Iraqi National Assembly today has
approved a new coalition government. The Iraqi people
deserve to have a broad and inclusive government that can
undertake all the difficult challenges confronting the
country," Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere says.
"An improvement in the serious security situation demands
that Iraqi authorities are anchored in and supported by the
people. We must hope that the National Assembly's approval
of the coalition government can contribute to this," says
Stoere.
"It takes time to build democracy and Iraq has a long way to
go. But elections have been conducted and the establishment
of a government is a decisive first step."
"An improved security situation is a prerequisite for
reaching the goal on a united and stabile Iraq. Norway will
continue to support the effort to democratize and rebuild
Iraq," says Stoere.
