Jostein Leiro on April 26. Leiro said that Norway fully
agreed that members of the new UN Human Rights Council (HRC)
should reflect the principles on which the HRC was
established, and must have good track records on human
rights. Leiro said that Norway had not yet made its decision
on all potential candidates, so he said he could not
officially say which countries Norway would support for the
HRC. Unofficially, however, Leiro guaranteed us that "Iran
will not be on that list" of countries that Norway will
support. Leiro also reiterated Norwegian disappointment that
the US has decided not to stand for the Council at this time.
