Poloff delivered reftel on June 1 to Charalambos Hadjisavvas,
who handles the Middle East Portfolio in the Political
Affairs Division at the MFA. Hadjisavvas stated that
Cyprus's Palestinian assistance policy was in line with that
of the U.S. and EU. He also noted that the ROC shares the
United States' commitment to the establishment of a temporary
international mechanism that will deliver humanitarian
financial assistance to the Palestinian people. He agreed
that such a measure will serve as a useful tool for helping
to improve humanitarian conditions in the short-run. He
expressed concern, however, regarding Hamas' continued
rejection of the Principles of Peace as established by the
Quartet.
