(C) On April 18, DCM delivered reftel message to Thalia
Petrides, Political Director of the Cyprus MFA. Petrides
commented that the recent attacks against U.S. Ambassador
Brownfield were "shocking and highly inappropriate." When
asked whether Cyprus had decided which Latin American
candidate it would support for the Security Council, Petrides
said the GOC was undecided. DCM urged the GOC to consider
the provocative assault against Ambassador Brownfield as it
weighed whether to support Venezuela's versus Guatemala's
candidacy.
