(U) Poloff delivered reftel messages to Demetra Christodoulou in the MFA's Multilateral Affairs division and to Stelios Makriyiannis, who follows Asian issues in the division of bilateral affairs. Makriyiannis said that Cyprus supported EU policy on Burma and that it was very much in line with the U.S. position. Cyprus would work with the international community through the UN and ASEAN to implement EU policy, and despite recent comments from the EC DG for External Relations in Brussels, this policy had not changed. He did not believe that it had even been discussed at the Council level. SCHLICHER
