¶1. (U) DCM Zimmerman delivered reftel points and a copy of
the President's statement to Cyprus MFA Political Director
Thalia Petrides on October 10. DCM added that, as an EU
member, Cyprus could play a key role in ensuring that the
European response to the apparent North Korean nuclear test
would be unambiguous and firm.
¶2. (U) Petrides agreed the situation was grave and urgent.
She said she would discuss the matter with Foreign Minister
Lillikas, and said she would recommend that the GOC quickly
issue a statement condemning the DPRK's test.
