1. The Bahamas requests two interns as part of the WHA
Spring 2007 intern program. Our response is formatted
pursuant to reftel request:
a. Internships offered: Two.
b. Language requirements: None.
c. Other special selection criteria: Graduate experience
preferred but not required; international relations focus
preferred but not required; minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.5
preferred; no regional or country experience required.
d. Section to be assigned: Political/Economic/Public
diplomacy section (1); Consular section (1).
e. Name of post intern coordinator: Jeanne Dennis,
Community Liaison Officer, 242-322-1181 x 4254, 242-328-7838,
dennisja@state.gov.
f. Job duties: Intern One will support
Political/Economic/Public Diplomacy officers, including
assistance in drafting speeches, drafting press releases,
drafting official cables, monitoring local political
conditions and elections, analyzing human and property rights
issues, and supporting American business in The Bahamas.
Specific assignments for Intern One will be designated upon
arrival, but will be tailored to provide a wide range of
experience regarding direct country-to-country diplomatic
relations. Intern two will work with the consular section to
support consular operations inluding data entry, written,
electronic and telephone correpsondence, customer service,
prescreening, fingerprinting and other consular functions.
Both interns would have the opportunity to attend Country
Team meetings and to work on special projects and assignments
with other sections. Interns will become familiar with all
aspects of State Department operations.
g. Housing: Post will provide housing, either in existing
leased properties temporarily vacant or by providing host
families from existing mission personnel.
h. Visa requirements: No difficulties or costs anticipated.
i. Inoculations required: None. Standard traveler's
vaccinations recommended - see
www.cdc.gov/travel/caribbean.htm.
j. Deposits: None required.
