REF: STATE 87682
1. (SBU) DCM delivered reftel points to Kenyan Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Lazarus Amayo the evening
of May 31. (Head of state and foreign minister were
unavailable.) Amayo discussed at length the recent G-77
meeting in Malaysia and Iran's attempt to introduce a
statement on the nuclear issue. Jamaica's strong stance
against this action was supported by the majority of
participants, he said, because they felt Iran was trying to
invalidate the authority of the IAEA.
2. (SBU) Amayo requested a copy of the Secretary's statement.
He was non-committal on the prospect of Kenya making its own
statement, saying only that he would be in touch with the DCM
after reading the Secretary's remarks. He was, nonetheless,
generally positive about the Secretary's action.
