Nealon for reasons 1.4 (B) and (D) ¶1. (C) On January 18, Polcouns delivered reftel demarche and talking points to MFA Director for Multilateral Affairs Gustavo Alvarez. Alvarez listened attentively and seemed particularly interested in what steps the UN Security Council might take in response to the international community's growing concern over Iran's nuclear ambitions. He acknowledged that Iran was a major importer of Uruguayan rice, but also indicated that the GOU was concerned about Iran's nuclear proliferation, its likely role in the 1990s AMIA Center bombing in Buenos Aires and President Ahmadinejad's ""unfortunate"" recent remarks regarding Israel. He said that although Uruguay was not influential with the UNSC or the IAEA, he would discuss the matter further with his colleagues at the MFA and the UN. Nealon
