(C) On May 31, Charge delivered reftel demarche to Deputy
Foreign Minister Maria "Belela" Herrera, per instructions
reftel. With respect to a public statement of support,
encouraging Iran to fully and verifiably suspend its
enrichment and reprocessing activities and keeping the
spotlight on Iran's choice, Herrera said she would raise the
issues with the Foreign Minister as soon as this evening. On
a related issue, Herrera described how the Iranian Embassy
had "heavily pressured" the MFA to back its bid for a seat on
the UN Human Rights Council. She said that the GOU had
resisted voting for Iran and she highlighted the GOU's
preoccupation over Iran's nuclear ambitions.
