LEAK IN BELARUS
1. Belarusian and Russian press are reporting that on
July 27 an oil leak occurred on the Unicha-Polotsk
section of the Druzhba pipeline in the Russian region of
Bryansk, which is near the Belarusian border. News
reports indicate that the accident resulted from
corrosion in the pipeline. Russian news sources add
that the leak has caused the temporary suspension of oil
shipments through the pipeline until the problem is
fixed, preventing Russian crude from reaching the
Lithuanian oil refining facility Mazeikiu Nafta. The
Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and
Environmental Protection on August 1 confirmed for
Poloff that the GOB has not discovered pollution or
environmental damage on Belarusian territory.
