RE-ELECTION TO U.N. HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE

On May 31 emboff delivered reftel talking points and
background information on the re-election of Dr. Ruth
Wedgwood, the U.S. candidate for the United Nations Human
Rights Committee, to Faruque Faquira, Head of United Nations
Department, Directorate of International Conferences and
Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Faquira
gave no substantive response, nor did he indicate for whom
the GRM would vote in the September 7 election. Faquira
promised to pass the reftel message and background to
Mozambique's UN Mission in New York for further consideration.
