1. Post regrets the delay of this response to reftel, but we
did not receive reftel in normal cable traffic. Post
delivered reftel talking points February 23 to officials at
the Ministry of Agriculture's National Institute of Sugar.
2. According to the National Institute of Sugar,
Mozambique's total current allocation under the FY 2006 raw
sugar TRQ (18,683 metric tons) has been shipped or is
currently in transit to the United States. In addition,
according to an Institute official, Mozambique has the
capacity to ship another 50,000 metric tons of raw sugar if
its FY 2006 raw sugar TRQ allocation were increased. The
official stressed that Mozambique would be "very pleased" to
be able to ship more sugar this fiscal year to the United
States.
