CONDEMNATION OF THE AL-ASKARIYA SHRINE BOMBING

On February 23, poloff delivered reftel demarche to Faizal
Cassam, Directorate for Africa and the Middle East, Ministry
of Foreign Affairs. He gave no substantive comment at the
time; however, in a follow-up meeting with poloff on February
27, Cassam stated that although the Government of Mozambique
condemned this and all acts of terrorism, the GRM had no
plans to release a public statement denouncing the incident.
Cassam explained that, since the GRM did not have an official
government spokesperson, the GRM only rarely issued
statements.
