RE-ELECTION TO THE INTERNATIONAL LAW COMMISSION

On August 31 emboff delivered reftel talking points,
background information and diplomatic note on the re-election
of Mr. Michael Matheson, the U.S. candidate to the
International Law Commission (ILC),to Faruque Faquira, Head
of United Nations Department, Directorate of International
Conferences and Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. Faquira responded that the Government was currently
reviewing candidates for this election and that Mozambique
also has a candidate, Ambassador Pedro Comissario. Faquira
stated that Mozambique seeks mutual support for its candidate
to the ILC and would provide further information as
available. Post will provide any further substantive
reaction septel.
