1. (C) DCM delivered reftel demarche September 14 to MFA
Assistant Undersecretary for Coordination and Follow Up
Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa concerning the
efforts of the international community to assist the
rebuilding of Lebanon and to support the deployment of LAF
and enhanced UNIFIL forces. Shaikh Abdul Aziz said that he
had spoken with Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al
Khalifa about previous Embassy demarches on Lebanon and the
U.S.'s encouragement of generous support for Lebanon. He
also said that he had met this week with the Lebanese
Ambassador to Bahrain who explained that the Lebanese
government is in the process of evaluating LAF personnel and
equipment needs and determining how the international
community can help Lebanon. Shaikh Abdul Aziz said that
Bahrain is looking at how it may best support the LAF.
2. (C) Shaikh Abdul Aziz noted that the MFA had received an
invitation from the Lebanese government to attend the
September 18 meeting of the Economic Core Group in Singapore.
