(C) Poloff delivered reftel points to MFA deputy DG for
Central America, Caribbean, and Mexico Carmen Diez on June
¶15. She replied that MFA is carefully following the
situation in Nicaragua and believes that the upcoming
elections are vitally important. According to Diez, Spain
continues to push for an EU election observation mission.
She said that Spain also supports the efforts of other
international organizations that would help to supervise the
Nicaraguan elections. As for financial support for the OAS
mission, Diez said that Spain hopes to be able to contribute
via a special fund that Spain is starting within the OAS.
